CHALLENGE

The goal of the Woondeal project is to decrease the inequality experienced by the inhabitants in Woensel Zuid in terms of socio-economic status, education quality, and lack of social cohesion, compared to the rest of Eindhoven.

 

Through the redevelopment of urban factors such as greenery and housing and investments from the government, socio-economic factors such as social cohesion, education and safety would improve greatly. Ultimately transforming and revitalizing Woensel-Zuid, making it more coherent with the rest of Eindhoven.

OUTCOME

The outcome of this project was shaped by the context dossier and advice statement. The main outcome is creating a starting point for discussions and action points within the municipality informed by research. The municipality is asked to take action on improving educational inequalities. This is relevant because education within the Woensel-Zuid area has many opportunities for improvement based on the language barrier, communication issues, social cohesion, and liveability. 

PROCESS

QUARTILE 1

In the first quartile the effort went into making the context dossier. This dossier explains the most important parts of the project through the research that has been done. The deliverable was an overview of past, present, and future themes that define Woensel-Zuid as a neighborhood. The most important themes were: history, culture, economics, politics, trends and reference projects.

QUARTILE 2

By making the context dossier some interesting themes were found. Concentrating on one theme gave the opportunity to put all efforts into making the best possible deliverable.

 

By concentrating our efforts on education, the team believes to make the largest impact. However, for this to succeed, inclusivity of and knowledge about all the stakeholders (teachers, parents and children) is needed to improve the education standards in Woensel-Zuid.

 

The final outcome for this quartile was an advice statement for the municipality. In this statement the most important underlying opportunities for development were found. The statement is backed with scientific research. The next step is to use the statement by getting in contact with primary schools.
